Peter Young, surgeon, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1846 to 1850. He was ship surgeon of the barque King William and later became a private practitioner in Hong Kong. He was a partner in Hong Kong Dispensary, which was located at Queen's Road, in 1846. He was a member of the Royal Asiatic Society, China Branch in 1850. He was a member of the Board of Trustees and Managing Committee of the Seamen's Hospital in 1850. He was one of the three coadjutors of the Union Church in 1850. He was a Justice of the Peace from 1843 to 1846[1]. D'Aguilar Street was listed as his address in 1850.
Six medical practitioners were listed in the 1850 Hong Kong Almanack and Directory, arranged according to priority of residence. They were: Peter Young, George Kingston Barton, Thomas Hunter, Andrew Howden Balfour, William T. Morrison and Nicolet Michel Clerjon.
Peter Young was the brother of James H. Young.
[1] He was one of the first 44 Justices of Peace ever to be appointed in Hong Kong. Their appointments were announced by Henry Pottinger on the fifth day after he had sworn in as the first Colonial Governor. The date was June 30 ,1843.
