Archibald Campbell, merchant, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1848 to 1850. He was a partner in the mercantile firm, Dent & Co., in 1850. He was a director of the Hong Kong and Canton Steam Packet Co. in 1850. He was a Justice of the Peace (non-official) in 1850. He was one of the three Vice Presidents of the Morrison Education Society in 1850. He sat in a number of committees including the Standing Committee of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge; and the Standing Committee of the Incorporated Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts in 1850. He was elected Vice President of the Royal Asiatic Society, China Branch in 1850. Queen's Road and Glenealy was listed as his addresses in 1850.
There were three men named Archibald Campbell residing in Hong Kong at the time: Archibald Campbell of Dent & Co.; Archibald J. Campbell of Fletcher & Co.; and Captain Archibald Neil Campbell of the Eighteenth Royal Irish Regiment.
