Thomas Hyland, civil servant, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1846 to 1850. He was Hong Kong's Postmaster between 1846 and 1850.
On June 2 1847, Hyland, in his capacity as the Postmaster, sued Captain Thomas Larkins, proprietor of the steamer Corsair for £5,200 as a fine for Larkins' carrying letters not exempted from the exclusive privileges of the Postmaster for one year between Hong Kong and Canton. The claimant won the case but the awarded fine was for only £100.
