George Augustus Frederick Norris, auctioneer's assistant, was listed as as a resident of Hong Kong from 1846 to 1850. He was employed by auctioneer Charles Markwick as an assistant in 1846, and by underwriter and auction house, McEwen & Co., as an assistant in 1850; and by ship chandlers and auction house, Bowra & Co., at another time. Pottinger Street was listed as his address in 1846, and Queen's Road in 1850.
Norris was born in 1826. He died in London on November 28, 1893 and was buried at the Abney Park Cemetery.
Two individuals as well as two firms were listed as underwriters and general auctioneers in the 1850 Hong Kong Almanack and Directory, arranged according to priority of license. They were: John Currie, W. H. Franklyn, Smith & Brimelow and McEwen & Co.
