John Rees, mariner, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong in 1850. He worked for the mercantile firm , Jardine Matheson, and had captained the following ships owned by Jardine: Dansborg, Kronberg, Colonel Young, Austin and Lady Hayes.
Publications by Rees had included a chart titled China South Coast Canton River Cum-Sing-Mun Harbor, drawn by rees and another sea captain F. Jauncey in 1840.
