Updated August 30, 2014

William Soames, master mariner, was listed as a resident of  Hong Kong from 1847 to 1855. He captained the steamer Canton between 1847 and 1850, and the steamer Corsair at another time.

Soames was married to Anne Louisa [maiden name unknown]. They had two daughters: Annie Kate Wallem Soames and Fanny Augusta Dickson Soames. Annie died in Hong Kong on May 25, 1855 probably at the age of eight. She was buried at the Hong Kong Cemetery. Fanny also died very young and was buried at the same cemetery as her sister.
