Pope, John

John Pope, civil engineer, civil servant, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1844 to 1848. He worked for the Surveyor General's Office as clerk of works and engineer between 1844 and 1848. He was also listed separately as a civil engineer having Aberdeen Street as his address in 1846. He and William Tarrant were the Joint Assessors and Collectors of Police Rate in 1846. He was a Freemason and belonged to the Royal Sussex Lodge.

Pope married Clarissa Rosa Cobham, only daughter of Thomas Cobham, of Ware, Hertfordshire, in Hong Kong on August 6, 1845.
