Joseph Thomas Glew, auctioneer's assistant, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1846 to 1848. He was under the employment of the mercantile firm and auction house, Smith & Brimelow, in 1846.
Two individuals and two firms were listed as underwriters and general auctioneers in the 1850 Hong Kong Almanack and Directory, arranged according to priority of license. They were: John Currie, W. H. Franklyn, Smith & Brimelow and McEwen & Co.
