Chan A-kuen 陳亞權

Chan A-kuen 陳亞權, alias Chinam 齊南, opium trader, was recorded as a resident of Hong Kong from 1843 to 1844. Chan was one of the three partners in the Canton opium firm Tun Wo 敦和. He came to Hong Kong in 1843 and returned the following year to Canton, his usual domicile, where he died shortly afterward.

Campbell, Smollett James Drummond

Smollett James Drummond Campbell, bank manager, was recorded as a resident of Hong Kong in 1846. He was the manager of Oriental Bank in 1846. He moved to Bombay in August the same year.

Campbell was born in Craignish, Argyllshire, Scotland on December 12, 1812. He was the son of Captain James Campbell and Jean Vyse Campbell. He married Mary Adelaide Tyndall in fall 1846, by then he was the manager of the Oriental Bank in Bombay. He died in Calcutta on April 13, 1854. Campbell and Tyndall had four children: Smollett Campbell (born in India on August 12, 1852, died in Hong Kong on August 20, 1915), Adelaide Campbell (born ca.1850), Georgina Campbell (born ca.1852), and Magdalen Isabell Campbell (born ca. 1854).

[Three Oriental Bank officers were linked by marriages. Smollett James Drummond Campbell (manager in Hong Kong in 1846) was married to Mary Adelaide Tyndall; Charles James Fife Stuart (manager in Hong Kong in 1850) to Caroline Georgina Tyndall. The Tyndall girls were the sisters of Bruce Tyndall (assistant in Hong Kong in 1850).]
