Campbell, Smollett James Drummond

Smollett James Drummond Campbell, bank manager, was recorded as a resident of Hong Kong in 1846. He was the manager of Oriental Bank in 1846. He moved to Bombay in August the same year.

Campbell was born in Craignish, Argyllshire, Scotland on December 12, 1812. He was the son of Captain James Campbell and Jean Vyse Campbell. He married Mary Adelaide Tyndall in fall 1846, by then he was the manager of the Oriental Bank in Bombay. He died in Calcutta on April 13, 1854. Campbell and Tyndall had four children: Smollett Campbell (born in India on August 12, 1852, died in Hong Kong on August 20, 1915), Adelaide Campbell (born ca.1850), Georgina Campbell (born ca.1852), and Magdalen Isabell Campbell (born ca. 1854).

Norris was born in 1826. He died in London on November 28, 1893 and was buried at the Abney Park Cemetery.

Charles James Fife Stuart, bank manager, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong in 1850. He was the manager of the Oriental Bank in 1850. He was a Justice of the Peace (non-official) in 1850. He was a member of the Royal Asiatic Society, China Branch in 1850, and the treasurer of the Hong Kong Club in the same year.

Stuart was born in Valenciennes, Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France in 1817. He was married to Caroline Georgina Tyndall in Dorset, England in 1844. By then he was a secretary of the Oriental Bank and had been appointed to various posts in China and India. He was later promoted to the position of Inspector of the region. He died in Bahia, Brazil on December 8, 1875,

Brimelow married Harriet Fortescue Roberts, who was born in Cornwall, daughter of J. Roberts of Singapore, at St. Andrew Church in Singapore on June 20, 1848. They had two sons: John A.F. Brimelow (born in Hong Kong in 1852) and Edward W. Brimelow (born in Hong Kong in 1862). According to Cornish 1871 Census, Harriet and her two sons lived with her father John Roberts at West Derby, Lancashire. John Brimelow was listed as clerk general merchant in the same census.
