Badenoch, Alexander

Updated October 15, 2014

Alexander Badenoch, shipwright, was recorded as a resident of Hong Kong in 1844. He was said to have connections in Singapore also engaged in the shipbuilding business. He died in Hong Kong in 1844, at the age of 26 (or 28) and was survived by his wife.

Badenoch was born in Banffshire, Scotland.

There was another Alexander Badenoch existing in Hong Kong around that time. He was the captain of merchant ship Herald of Light, of which he owned 64 shares. I do not know if the two were related.

Badenoch, P.

Updated October 23, 2014

P. Badenoch, shipwright, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1845 to 1848. Queen's Road was listed as his address in 1846.

There was a record, dated May 1, 1855, of one P. Badenoch, shipwright by profession, who owned a company by the name of Badenoch & Co. in Singapore. I think these two were the same person. Also, I will be quite surprised if P. Badenoch and Alexander Badenoch were not related. They might also have family living in Singapore, perhaps even engaged in the same trade.
