Mercer, William Thomas

William Thomas Mercer, civil servant, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong from 1846 to 1870. He was the acting Colonial Treasurer in 1846 and became the Treasurer and Receiver of Colonial Revenue in 1850. He was the Registrar-General, Census and Registration Office in 1850. He was an ex officio member of the Legislative Council in 1850. He was a Justice of the Peace (official) between 1848 and 1850.  He was the Treasurer of the Trustees of St. John Church, and Auditor of the Morrison Education Society in 1850. He was a member of the Royal Asiatic Society, China Branch 1850. Mercer retired in 1867 due to ill health. His last held position in the Civil Service was Colonial Secretary. He receive his first payment of pension of £675 from the Hong Kong Government on May 14, 1867.
